Jinxie Meets a Boy!

Ever since I learned Jambo died at the WAO, I've been very concerned for Jinxie.  First, the WAO wanted to integrate Jinx with Sebastian, Sheba, and Tarzan.  When that did not work out, Jinxie was banished to a small cage, more like the run-off cage, at Talley Road.  When I learned Jinxie went to Insync (not to far from San Antonio), I prayed she would finally receiving the attention she deserves.

Plans were made to introduce Jinxie to Dinari on April 1, 2011 (April Fools Wedding Day for the cats).  Before you see the videos of the lions (below), I'd like to give you a little history of Dinari:

At 15 months old, Dinari and his brother, Malikai, arrived at Insync in 2002.  The brothers were the best of friends until Malikai passed away this year.

Sadly, Dinari's health has also taken a turn for the worse.  He was diagnosised as having a mass on in liver.  With the passing of his brother and his recent diagnosis, Dinari sunk into depression and he lost the desire to eat his regular meals--choosing instead to chew meat of large shank bones. 

Insync is hoping that Jinxie will help him overcome his depression and give him the will to love life again.

In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue and Educational Center - Well, apparently Dinari and Jynxie's wedding went great today! Now that she is recovered from her spay surgery, they were together for about 30 minutes for the first time today (heavily supervised), and did awesome! Jynxie is completely ignoring him in the picture, and he looks somewhat stunned... :) We'll keep up the supervised visits, and hopefully they will be able to live together full-time soon! April 4 at 3:24pm

Later:  I learned on Friday, April 14, 2011, Dinari ate an entire 16lb turkey by himself.  This is such excellent news for Dinari.  Ever since Jinxie was introduced to Dinari, the boy started to show interest in life again.  I've been told he's been playful with Jinxie and he's playing with his toys again.

No matter how much time Dinari has left with Insync (whether its a short or hopefully a very long time), Jinxie played a pivotal role in lifting his spirits, pulling him out of depression over the loss of his brother, and gave him a second chance at enjoying life again.  God Bless Jinxie and Dinari.

IFAW Wants to Loan Money Each Month to WAO!

Well, it looks like IFAW is tired of paying the WAO bills, so now the facility is supposed to pay for its own food and medical bills with the help of $5k loan each month from IFAW.  Needless to say, IFAW wants its money back, so it is asking the court to make IFAW a "priority" receiver of any funds available after the bankruptcy dust settles!

Since it takes $20k each month to run the facility, where is the WAO going to get the remaining $15k needed each month? 

Since the Cryers and the WAO staff have no idea how to fundraise for the animals, I fear that there will be no medical care for the sick and aging animals.  I just pray I am wrong.

Does Anyone Know How Lulu, Kovu, and Ifaw are Doing?

Last year, Safe Haven Zoo promised to send me the video showing Lulu and the boys (Kovu and Ifaw) enjoying their new balls.  Back then, I was told there was problems downloading the video camera.

Months later I sent this email:

We've had some nice weather here recently and I'm hoping that you and yours are enjoying warmer weather too. Love to see any new pics you might have of the three cats and to read any updates on the cats' progress that you'd like to share.

I understand Lulu's new home is under construction.... I can't wait to see her in her in the new habitat. She is such a sweet cat and she really deserves the new home you are building for her.

By chance, were you ever able to retreive the video from the camera showing Lulu and the boys playing with their boomer balls back in November 2010? If so, could you shoot me a copy? I miss seeing the cats in action!

Well, it's been almost a month since I first sent my request and during that time I’ve sent Safe Haven two additional reminders, I guess I’m going to give up on the idea of ever receiving a response from this facility. No video as promised last year. Makes me wonder what happened to the Lulu and the boys. Are they okay? I think it's wrong to dangle a "carrot" and then yank it back without even giving me a response to my three emails; especially since I miss Lulu very much and worked so hard to save her (as I told Lynda last year). I didn't know Ifaw or Kovu very well, as they lived at Talley Road, never the less though, I would like to know how the boys are doing.

Since Safe Haven does not post videos or photos regularly to its website or Facebook page as many of the other sanctuaries do from time to time, I have to wonder what is going on there. I had high hopes for the Safe Haven Zoo in the beginning, and now I am left to wonder what kind of place were the animals sent to?

My name is Tom Bergstrom I am one of the interns here at Safe Haven. Our winter interns are just finishing up their 6 months and the new spring interns are just starting to arrive so we have not been checking the email regularly, sorry about that. Here are a few attached pictures that I could find of Kovu and Ifaw. They are both very happy and enjoying the good weather that we are having. As for Lulu I could not find any pictures of her in her temporary enclosure, but she is doing well and her new enclosure is about a two weeks (weather pending) from being finished.

The three pictures sent were of Kovo...he's looking good!
