Baby Monkeys Equals Cha'Ching!

Famous last words posted on Jungle Friends' website:  http://www.junglefriends.org/baby-monkey-links-resources.shtml
The babies at Jungle Friends are the result of a Monkey Rescue on October 1, 2010. The babies are Monkers, Zumie, Mochi and now Michelle's little baby born on April 11, 2011.
As a sanctuary, Jungle Friends has a no breeding policy. So, it was quite a surprise to find expectant mothers turning up! We accepted a group of monkeys from Texas and it is now obvious that a vasectomy failed. The situation has been remedied.
Opps, wrong again.

Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary
One of our expectant mothers gave birth this morning, so far baby is clinging, eyes & mouth opening & closing, mama is eating & active. Baby has been trying to suckle - not sure if baby is actually nursing, so I am keeping vigil. I will be blogging all day on our Monkeyshines Blog & putting up photos & videos. I am set up near their habitat & will be watching & blogging throughout the day, so stay tuned to our blog!
Okay, let me get this straight.  No one noticed the monks procreating earlier this year?

Jungle Friends knew that the WAO males were not sterile prior to their relocation to Florida, knew that the previous sanctuary allowed the monks to breed for years on end and yet, knowing this, Jungle Friends did not separate the males from the females when they first arrived at the sanctuary?  Why?

Why not err on the side of caution?

With a cauchin gestation period of 150-180 days, it was clear the animals were mating at Jungle Friends.  No one noticed all the extra activity in the enclosure?  Just how many other capuchin monks will turn up pregnant this year?
Cha'ching!

The first Gold Sponsor will name Elizabeth's baby, please sponsor this baby!

Elizabeth and baby are doing great!

We need a baby monkey sponsor! More mouths to feed in this economy, yikes! The first person to sign up for a Gold Sponsorship for Elizabeth's baby will have the privilege of naming the baby

This also makes me wonder what other species of monks are having babies at the sanctuary.

No doubt the babies are adorable and they do bring in the donors.  Allowing the WAO monks to breed this year is a sure fire way of getting the donations flowing into the sanctuary.  Cha'Ching!

  • Kari Bagnall They are so damn cute! Elizabeth is also Mochi's mama and after watching the Wild Animal Repo show, we are not even sure that Elizabeth was put in with her baby for transportation from Texas to Jungle Friends, so she many NOT have rejected her baby afterall!

  • Kari Bagnall Gestation is about 6 months. Dr. Michele Martino is going to come out and vasectomize ALL of our males, some of them were failed vasectomies from the vet school and we have two more boys, the marmoset and tamarin, and then of course the Motley Crew, so we have about a dozen vasectomies for her to perform and 13 A1C tests for our diabetics, and she is donating her services!!!
