Chimp Migration from New Mexico to Florida Underway!

You may recall in a previous posting that some of the WAO chimps were relocated to the New Mexico Save the Chimp facility and were waiting for their new home to open up at the Florida facility.

Well, Florida is calling and the chimps are ready to go!

Marc, Kaleb, Late, Tina, Katina, and Kayla are next up on The Great Chimpanzee Migration! They are scheduled to depart NM today and arrive on FL on Saturday. Will Tropical Storm Emily slow them down? We'll keep you posted here on facebook! 8.4.11

No road trip is complete without french fries, and the chimps all get to enjoy fresh warm fries on their journey. Other snacks that we pack for the chimps include cereal bars, applesauce, and juice boxes. Don't worry, we also bring plenty of fresh fruits and veggies too! 8.4.11

Just before the migration trailer pulled out of the gate...Late (pronounced just like it's spelled) gets comfortable with his blankets. 8.4.11

This just in: the chimps and their human companions are making a pit stop in Ozona, TX. Beth says the chimps are quiet as can be, enjoying their snacks, the view, and the curious visitors who gather when the trailer stops for fuel. 8.4.11

The chimps will be passing through San Antonio area in about 2.5 hours, and continuing their journey on I-10 throughout the night. Keep your eyes peeled; you never know when you might spot the Save the Chimps trailer on the highway!

Save The Chimps, Inc. @Sarah--Marc, Kaleb, Late, Tina, Katina, and Kayla. Marc is a former Coulston chimp and Kaleb is a former pet chimp. Late, Tina, Katina, and Kayla were formerly at LEMSIP and New Iberia before moving to Wild Animal Orphanage in TX. WAO declared bankruptcy late last year, and we rescued 11 of their chimps.
Good night all! Check back in for more Great Chimp Migration updates tomorrow, as Marc, Kaleb, Late, Tina, Katina, and Kayla make their way to Florida!  8.4.11

Good morning, Migration Watchers! The chimps are just outside of Winnie, TX and will soon be bidding a fond farewell to Texas and saying hello to Louisiana. All 6 chimps are enjoying the trip, eating well, and Late (see his photo on our wall) even had a nice deep sleep. Onward to Florida!  8.5.11

This was taken as Katina was waiting to be loaded onto the migration trailer. It's probably pretty safe to guess that she's thinking "What the heck is going on here?"
