HIV Chimps May Be Leaving WAO in Two Months!

I found the following information on GFAS Facebook today:

Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS)

This is Doc, one of the five HIV chimps waiting to move to Chimp Haven.

Linda Rentfrow where has he spent most of his life?

Lynda Clack he's a lovely old gentleman though. Sort of ironic that his name is Doc, though.

Sadly, more than 30 years of his life was spent in research labs. He has been at Wild Animal Orphanage, and they filed for bankruptcy. Save the Chimps amazingly took 11 of the chimps that were at Wild Animal Orphanage. They moved in March. We are out of time with these five guys.

If we can raise the funds in two weeks, then the enclosure can be finished and the chimps moved in less than two months.

Doc loves to brush his hair with a hairbrush. Will blow kisses at you for attention and one of his favorite things is to groom others. The staff sets up a TV for him to watch (once or twice a week). His favorite shows so far are "Dinosaurs" and "Scrubs". Favorite fruit = grapes, berries. Favorite veggies = grape tomatoes, onions (all kinds).

Any news on what is going to happen to the big cats and primates that are still at the WAO?

This is Patty Finch with GFAS. Monday is my birthday, a special one after beating cancer last year! I have a very simple birthday wish. I want to raise $170,000 in the next two weeks to move five HIV positive chimps from a failed sanctuary to the wonderful Chimp Haven. The funds will be used to finish this outdoor enclosure.

If you know of a major donor who might be interested in making this happen for these chimps, please email me at patty(at)sanctuaryfederation.org. I'll send you the details to share!

After more than three decades in research, these chimps deserve to spend their last years in a wonderful place!

yes they do-especially considering their HIV+ status. And since they were infected on purpose. The labs who did this to them should be responsible for their sanctuary costs. At least I think so.

Lynda, the NIH is being asked to cover the ongoing care costs. The USDA has offered to provide transport. So all we need are funds to finish the enclosure.

Lynda Clack OK, I feel a little better knowing that they weren't totally thrown out and forgotten. Thanks for letting me know.

Please think of philanthropists who might like this cause. It's YOU who will make this happen for the chimps.
