Public Information Records - IFAW and GFAS' WAO Involvement

The last posting covered the former WAO Board of Directors.  Now let's look at what IFAW and Global's planned to do to save the WAO animals.

I've been aware that IFAW and Global were looking for an existing non-profit organization to assume control of the WAO animals, possibly starting up a new sanctuary at the Talley Road facility, since last year.

I have not made mention of this fact, as I did not want disclose any information that may hurt the new non-profit's chances of providing care for the WAO's left-behind-animals.

Unfortunately, the situation changed when the OAG expressed its concern that the nominated non-profit organization, may not be up to the challenge of caring for the remaining WAO animals.  These records are now open to the public, under the Texas Public Information Act, so I've decided to print just a few pages to give you an idea of what essentially happened.

The Proposal

It was shocking to learn that Global and IFAW changed their minds and were no longer interested in saving the WAO animals.

IFAW and GFAS changed their stance on saving the WAO animals

Despite Mr. Morris' attempt to save the "deal," IFAW and Global remained resolved in backing out of the deal.

IFAW abandoned the WAO's animals years ago, why should this time be any different?  At least IFAW is willing to "loan" the WAO $5k per month until the conclusion of the bankruptcy case (oh, how big of them).

In the meantime, the WAO was expecting several large estate payments to come in this year total over $350k.  Once this money finally comes in, what will stop the Cryers from going crazy with this money if Global and IFAW are no longer "overseeing" the WAO?  Will history repeat its self once again?

Anyway, looks like IFAW and Global wants to push the WAO dilemma onto Born Free and HSUS.  Great.

I am truly scared that the WAO animals may not survive the year based on what is happening now, unless some group is willing to come forward before it's too late.  I guess I'll have to wait until I request additional records next month to find out what happened to the WAO animals.

Meanwhile, the nonprofit organization that was originally interested in helping the WAO posted this e-newsletter article explaining why, to its members, the organization was no longer helping the WAO's animals:

I am happy to read Amy did not forget the WAO animals and still wants to help them in some manner.  I just pray another organization steps up to the plate so she can partner with the new group, so they can work together in saving the animals.
