Sumner Matthes Passed Away Today

Sumner "Matt" Matthes died at 3:30 a.m., April 5th, 2011.  A tribute and burial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, April 8th, at the Sarasota National Cemetery on State Rd 72 (Clark Road), East of I-75.  A reception will be held after the services at The Daiquiri Deck on Siesta Key.

In respect to Sumner, I will say he was the only board director who admitted he made mistakes while serving on the WAO Board of Directors.

Later:  A friend of mine who did not know that Sumner had passed away, attempted to contact him to request he help save the WAO animals.  Below was the received response:

Sumner Matthes who previously served on the Board of Directors of the Wild Animal Orphanage died on April 5, 2011 -- a major contributing factor in his death was the depression and anxiety he experienced for years and years because of the awful things that were going on at the WAO. Perhaps you can say a prayer to him to try to help the animals from "the other side" where I trust that he is.
